How good are FILTERS on Masks?
- Test results on microbiological filters which were published in The Journal of Emergency Medicine, Vol. 9 1991, were shown not to be effective in CPR devices.
- Filters are porous and allow moisture to pass through.
- Filters have a very short shelf life.
- The efficiency of filters are measured under dry conditions, not the moist conditions that are found during CPR. The efficiency under dry conditions can even drop as much as 3% during the first six months of shelf life.
- Filters will wick moisture from a wet surface which it may touch, i.e. a patient's mouth or a manikin face, to the operator side.
